| This studio art glass bottle or vase is signed and dated by American artist R. Coleman. It measures; 5" high, 4" wide and 2.5" deep.__________ Robert Coleman was born in New York City in 1943. Raised in California near San Francisco, Coleman fell in love with hot glass in 1967 while on a field trip to the University of California, Berkeley. His first date with the material occurred three years later in 1970 while he was working on his Masters Degree in ceramics at the University of California, Los Angeles, and made an inter-campus transfer to Berkley for two terms. To describe his feelings toward working with hot glass, Coleman is fond of referring to music and dance. He thinks of himself as a conductor with the blowpipe, or pontil, being the baton, and the glass the music. In addition, he thinks of himself as a musician and the tools in the glass shop as the instruments -- the music being formed through playing those instruments on the glass. Lastly, he thinks of himself as a dancer in that his movements from instrument to instrument are choreographed as any dance might be. | ||
