Measuring 9 1/2" High x 5 1/4" wide, this monk flask, which I bought some time back as part of a collection, comes with a piece of paper, which of course may or may not have accurate information - I often find family items assume mythic proportions as they pass through the generation- which states, "This piece of pottery was made by Anna McClead Matteson around 1910 at Roseville..." With all the fanciful flights of the carver's art, this Chinese export carved wood frame measures 13 3/4" tall x 9 1/2" wide. The oval opening measures 5 3/5 x 3 3/4". The Temple of Heaven and dragons and phoenix decorate this marvelous frame which is in excellent condition. China, c. 1870.

Now here is the story I got on this piece: hewn of American walnut, this folk art piece was carved by a Michigan furniture craftsman in the last quarter of the Nineteenth Century. It seems to be a watch holder (behind the antlers) with space for the items in a man's pocket, watch chain, change etc. The French call these a vide poche. Although initially appearing to be Chinese, this vase has all the hallmarks of being by the French master mimic of all arts decorative, Samson. The gold on blue figures as well as the under glaze blue mark indicate Samson as the likely maker. France, c. 1880. In excellent condition and measuring 9 3/4" high, and 3 1/3" at the mouth.

This handsome Imari chalice measures, 6" High and 2 /34" in diameter at the top. It has striking Imari blue and reds colors and design, and a brilliant gold interior. It is in excellent condition, and 40 - 50 years old.

Resting on a matching, butterfly decorated underplate, this red-marked Royal Crown Derby miniature measures. Both bowl and underplate are in excellent condition, and show only a good deal of wear on the gilt decoration. There are the remnants of a Mendleson Galleries tag on the underplate. England, c. 1850. Dimensions: underplate 3 1/2" in diameter, and with the bowl seated on the plate, 2" high.

Each bearing a butterfly on one side and a flower blossom on the other (the second picture has a bit of a glare), this pair of miniature, octagonal, early Nineteenth Century English porcelain perfume flasks are quite a rare find. One is complete with its tiny gilt brass stopper (one has none), and each is excellent condition with the tiniest ware to the gilt decoration. Possibly Rockingham or Minton, but unmarked, England, c. 1840. Each measures 1 5/8" long, and 1 1/4" wide.

With a saucer measuring only 2 7/8" across, and a cup measuring only 1 1/8" high, this miniature cup and saucer bears the blue mark of Helena Wolfsohn, a renown decorator of Dresden porcelain, c. 1890. One marvelous lilac cherub is fishing, while another is looking through a spy glass. The tiny cup and saucer are each marked and in excellent condition. Germany, c. 1890.
