In the tradition of the lovely spatterware designs on American and English wares, this French pie dish by the famed maker Gien, dates from c. 1910. It measures 10 1/4" in diameter, and stands 2" high at the edge. There is some minor discoloration on the underside, but the top surface remains crisp and colorful. Although I can't find this pattern in any of the Gien resource books, it is strikingly and beautifully decorated. The Romanesque or Renaissiance Revival swirls are punctuated with the typical satyr heads on each side, and all perch on the matching underplate. The piece is in very fine condition, and both pieces are marked with a painted "Gien", and manufactured by that company in France. The cache pot measures 10" inside diameter, and 8 1/4" in height. This French, signed "Galle" (in the impressionistic twist of the letters), art pottery vase shows the strong Art Nouveau influence of the french school of decoration. There are yellow and Chinese red flowers with black foliage all highlighted in subtle gold and gold washes, all on a deep, dijon ground. The condition of the c. 1900 piece is excellent, with only the expected crazing, but virtually no wear on the inside. It measures 6 1/2" high by 9" in diameter. France, c. 1900

This quite rare Gien faience bronze mounted round box measures 7 1/4" in diameter, and 4 1/2" high (to the tip of the fruit finial). It rests on four bronze (or brass?) feet, has a brass (or bronze?) rim circling the top and the bottom, and has a ring on each side. The piece is in excellent condition with the exception of a small inner lip chip (see detail photo) visible only when the box is open. Quite a rare form for this piece of Gien Faience. Lovely addition to a faience collection ...click for details

Measuring 4 1/4" in diameter (11 cm.) this striking plate in a color that floats between cornflower blue and a bluish purple bears the mark of the famous French Massier factory, specifically Jerome Massier whose glazes and designs have charmed generations of majolica and barbatine lovers. It is in excellent condition.

Decorated in lovely Delft blues, this French faience toby measures 11" high, and 6" wide at the arms. The character carries a snuff box and is wearing a floral decorated waistcoat. There are no breaks, cracks or repairs. There are only some rubbing to the glaze on the high points - the hat edges, the elbows, etc. There is a mark which is indecipherable to me (see photo).

This piece of majolica, a rare example of majolica from Limoges (unmarked but we have had other pieces through the years with this distinctive base) is a match holder in the form of a woman astrologer or perhaps a witch. She has a serpent on the medallion which seems to fasten her cloak together. She holds a basket (for discarded matches?), and stands 9"-23cm high. She has a minuscule spot on the hat which seems to be the only bit of wear. Otherwise, perfect, we are proud to present this ra ...click for details

Blackend by seasons of baking cakes, this wonderful, well-loved and used cake mold has come to us from the French countryside. It measures 9" in diameter, and 4 1/4" high. Although there is wear from continued usage (whack-the-bottom-to-get-the-cake-out-chips), visible on the edges and the blackend bottom, it stands ready to charm any kitchen for years to come. France, c. 1910.
