A magnificent Kutani vase, in the vibrant greens, reds, blues, and gilt highlights that those of us who love Japanese ceramics are so fond of. It measures 12" in height, and is 3 1/2" square at the rim. Remarkably, it is unmarked, but just remarkably, it is in mint condition. I cleaned several decades of gunk off the top and was amazed at what I found! Fanciful children play on two sides, while two alternate sides have lush blue and red flowers in a deep jade green ground. This piece i ...click for details

The design features the "faceless" monks in a brick read field, and a monk or dharuma finial. The mark, (pictured) is difficult to photograph, but is definitely a Kutani mark. This wonderful find is a teapot-shaped water dropper, measuring 2 1/8" wide by 1 1/2" high. It was housed in a balsa lidded box, and comes complete with a Japanese antique dealer's sheet with pencil markings which identify it as Tokungawa Yoshimune Kyoho which dates it from 1716-1735. Also penciled in is "RURI IMARI". The item was bought in Yokohama in the 1950's and I have no reason to assume it is not as described by the dealer. It is in excellent condition.
