This wonderful find is a teapot-shaped water dropper, measuring 2 1/8" wide by 1 1/2" high. It was housed in a balsa lidded box, and comes complete with a Japanese antique dealer's sheet with pencil markings which identify it as Tokungawa Yoshimune Kyoho which dates it from 1716-1735. Also penciled in is "RURI IMARI". The item was bought in Yokohama in the 1950's and I have no reason to assume it is not as described by the dealer. It is in excellent condition.

SOLD

Measuring 19 1/4"high, and 5" wide, this imposing, dramatic kwan yin is as handsome as any I have owned. The colors are bright, Kutani blues and greens, and the face, gold. Approximately 1/2 of the scroll has been broken, but otherwise the piece is in pristine condition. The feet are a bit flawed from a old firing experience in the kiln, but "feet of clay" and all that. Notwithstanding any evidence to the contrary, and very handsome, decorative and desirable piece. Japan, c. ...click for details

$1350.00

Measuring 13" high, and 4 3/4" square at the base, standing on four porcelain feet, this stunning ewer/decanter for saki, is a striking piece of Japanese Imari. There is restoration - the finial on the lid, and one of the feet shows evidence of repair, and there is a crack at the top of the container (see photos) - but this is still a handsome red and blue decorated piece of Meiji imari. The spigot handle is horn, while the spigot is sterling with English hallmarks. Japan, last quarter ...click for details
