This pair of handsome Damascene multi-metal cuff links have a face which resembles an African battle shield. The backs are gilt. Cuff links are in excellent condition. The face measures 1 1/8" long.

This marvelous item is a viniagrette which once hung from a chatelaine which hung, itself, on a lady's waist. It still shows traces of the original gilt, although it is manufactured of a brass or bronze metal. It still contains the tiny sponge which would have been impregnated with a perfumed substance sot hat it could be held up to the nose as one passed through some sort of noxious vapors, thought to be the cause of illness, since germs were not yet understood as a major player in illness. ...click for details

This handsome, but restrained mourning watch chain and handsome armorial fob measures 11 1/2" ring to bar, and the fob dangles 2 1/4" from the chain. The ring is likely brass but the rest of the piece is all joined pieces of Gutta Percha or Vulcanite. These were popular during the middle of the Nineteenth Century, as a result of Victoria's extended mourning for Prince Albert, and then had a brief revival during the era of McKinley's assassination.
