A set of six gilt buttons, English and dating from c.1900, with, interestingly enough a head of Louis XIV. Each measures 1" in diameter, and is in excellent condition with only minimal wear. I acquired this with a lot of military buttons, but cannot immediately imagine why they bear the head of a French monarch, unless they were used on costumes of the period.
On their original card, this lot of fifteen regimental gilt buttons, 3/4" in diameter, were manufactured for the East Lancashire Regiment, c. 1915 (perhaps earlier). They are in excellent, brilliant gilt condition, depicting the Tudor Rose, and a sphinx with "egypt" written below it. Manufactured in Great Britain, era of the First World War.
