In brilliant blue, orange, yellow green and yellow, this faience elephant was made in France expressly for Tiffany and Company, I am guessing ca. 1970. It measures 16 1/2" in length, 9 1/2" in height, and 5" deep. It is in excellent condition, and can accommodate a floral arrangement in the square opening on the "howdah" on top. This stunning piece of hand-potted, and glazed signed Americana, is a lively interpretation of none other than the classic Uncle Sam. The glazes which are themselves spirited colors and applications lend a sophisticated finess to this handsome piece. Made of a yellow-terra cotta clay, the color of the biscuit bleeds through the glaze in a few spots. The face is serious and striking. The hat is over-brimmed with stars. Here we have two unusual floral arranging centerpiece frogs: two different ducks, perhaps a male and female mallard? They each measure approximately "6" long, and "6" high. Each is decorated in life-like color, in excellent condition and stamped "Made in Japan" -- Japan, c. 1950.
Standing 10 1/2" high, this male and female in deep aqua crackle glaze, are handsome Italian pottery chinoiserie figures made for the design import house of WONY in New York City. Although the base is marked "SB 55 WONY ITALY", similar figures were made by the potter Ugo Zaccagni, and Fantoni. As a bonus, each figure bears its original WoNY sticker. This platter in a popular Sarreguemines pattern, is beautifully decorated with a gold background, pears, grapes and cherries. It is in excellent condition with the exception of a few, small rim chips. France, c. 1960.
This festive figurine of a bouquet-bearing young lady measures 9" high and 7" wide. The colors are brilliant and decorative. Although the condition is really very good, some tiny petals on the flowers in her basket are missing. This is a fine example of the quality decorative pottery being produced in, and exported by Italian potters in the post World War II era.
Manufactured during the Twentieth Century in France, this pitcher is made from sheets of multi-colored pieces of clay and then shaped and fired. Requiring a great deal of love and labor, these piece of French pottery are much sought-after. The master potter of this piece, Yvan Koenig It measures 7 3/4" high, and approx. 7 1/4" handle to spout. In excellent condition.
This terra cotta plate, measuring 8 3/4" in diameter, and 1" deep is decorated with various colors of slip, which create the colorful swirls on the surface. It is crazed, as one might expect pottery of this type to be, but is in overall grand condition. Part of the original label is still visible on the reverse. I suspect that this piece dates from the 1930's or 1940's, and was manufactured in Bulgaria then under Soviet domination.
This is a set of small cup plates and perhaps a teapot stand all hand decorated and signed by Ruth Berger. The scenes vary from architectural to neo-classical. The smallest dishes measure 3 5/8" in diameter, and the single largest dish measures in diameter 4 1/2" in diameter. All made in Germany c. 1950 and in excellent condition.
