Here we have one of those delightful items that just "speaks to us". It is an Anri carved figural tobacco humidor, which depicts a smoker red-faced and in his cups leaning on the top of a barre. Lift him up, and the barrel opens, creating a space for tobacco. The head, on a swiveling neck, moves as the piece is moved. Accompanying this is the auction print out showing that it came from the estate of Fred MacMurray and June Haver.

This strikingly fanciful hand-painted pencil box from the American Southwest, dates from the early years of the Twentieth Century. The birds, each marvelously and imaginatively colored, no doubt, flew around only in the creative artist's mind, but have landed on this luscious, naive mahogany pencil box. The box seems to be painted in think, uneven layers if enamel, and there is some rubbing to the surfaces. The box measures 8 5/8" x 4 3/4" by 1 1/4" high. There are two chips i ...click for details

I am always pleased to get these enamel boxes with the sampson "x" mark, because they are always legitimate. They are mid-Nineteenth Century copies of Eighteenth Century boxes, and 150 years old themselves. This one is in very good shape for a larger box 2" high, 3 1/4" Wide, and 2 1/2" deep - but there are always some issues with these, fragile items that they are. There is some crazing visible on the sides, none on the bottom and some on the lid with one contusion visib ...click for details

Standing 13" high, 5 1/2" in diameter, this striking Old Paris vase with a youth carrying a light in the reserve, is a striking plum red. Someone in its long, event filled century and a half has filled the bottom inside with plaster for weight (often items were weighted when put on mantles or shelves, so cats wouldn't breeze by and knock the piece off!). Condition is essentially good, with a spider crack on the underside, and a flaw in the making which is glazed and painted over o ...click for details

This fascinating piece of Austrian porcelain features an oriental type nodder (head rotates, red tongue sticks out) holding a pair of dogs, and sitting next to a barrel which was probably intended to be a toothpick holder, or match holder. It measures 3 3/4" high and 3" wide. there is a variegated glaze with green blue and brown over the body of the piece, with a blue hat, and pinkish skin. This is a fascinating item, and it is miraculous that it has survived.

Hanging from a central gold loop, these five tiny military/infantry related charms are executed in beautiful detail. The consist of a sword 5/8" in length, a stiletto also 5/8" in length, a rifle 1 1/4", an ammunition purse--which opens and closes--1/4" long, and a hat, also 1/4" in length. Each piece is pendant on two small loops from the central loop. I believe these unmarked treasures to be German or French in origin. Condition is superb! It is amazing that such small ...click for details

Each depicting a scene of Shakespeare's birthplace, these two miniature commemorative mugs bear Minton and registry marks for the 1870's. Each miniature measures 1 1/2" in height. One bears a scene, I think, of the room where Shakespeare was born, and the other of the church in Stratford-upon-Avon, erroneously titled "grammer school". These small, originally inexpensive, were sold as souvenir items in the Nineteenth Century, where Shakespeare's fans already made pilgri ...click for details

In a frame measuring 21 3/4" x 17 1/2", this plaque depicting a stylized Mount Fujiyama, appears to be made of a wireless cloisonne, or perhaps just a seamless enamel, with a gilt flat enamel sky. The frame has fabric liner. The actual method of manufacture of this item is rather a mystery to me. Within the frame, the actual enamel piece measures 14" x 9". The enamel is flawless, while the gilt sky has a few rubbed marks on it. There is a signature/caption piece affixed to ...click for details
