In those luscious, rich Kutani greens and brick red, this koro or covered jar measures 8 1/2" high and 5 1/2" handle to handle. The design features the "faceless" monks in a brick read field, and a monk or dharuma finial. The mark, (pictured) is difficult to photograph, but is definitely a Kutani mark. Japan late Meiji, c. 1910. Excellent condition with a few glaze flakes, or perhaps just the result of careless glazing.

This attenuated carving of the Virgin Mary holding the Christ Child with a hand upheld in blessing is made of ivory. It dates from China, c. 1920, and stands 5 1/2" high. The base measures 1 1/8" in diameter. It is in excellent condition

Although barely 6" in diameter, this Japanese bronze finish (over a base metal of some sort) depicts a Samurai with bow and arrow, and an assistant with supplemental arrows, fighting off what appear to be some hovering, threatening scorpions! The front surface is in excellent condition, while the reverse shows wear. Japan, mid Meiji, c. 1900.

Measuring 13" high, and 4 3/4" square at the base, standing on four porcelain feet, this stunning ewer/decanter for saki, is a striking piece of Japanese Imari. There is restoration - the finial on the lid, and one of the feet shows evidence of repair, and there is a crack at the top of the container (see photos) - but this is still a handsome red and blue decorated piece of Meiji imari. This marvelous item is a viniagrette which once hung from a chatelaine which hung, itself, on a lady's waist. It still shows traces of the original gilt, although it is manufactured of a brass or bronze metal. It still contains the tiny sponge which would have been impregnated with a perfumed substance sot hat it could be held up to the nose as one passed through some sort of noxious vapors, thought to be the cause of illness, since germs were not yet understood as a major player in illness. ...click for details

What a surprise to open this striking, red-orange box with Japanese figures and scenes on the top, and find an oversized powder puff! Measuring 8" in diameter, and 3 1/2" to the tip of the finial, this box holds a powder puff which is itself just under 8" in diameter. There is normal wear for the rather fragile papier mache medium, but essentially it is sound and fully ready to be of use in the well-appointed boudoir. This unusual silk embroidered item is a baby bib, complete with a mother and child motif, a button at the top for securing it, and wonderful, decorative fringe at the bottom. It measures 16 1/2" long, and 12" wide. The fringe at the bottom adds another 6" to the total length making bib + fringe 22 1/2" long. Condition is excellent with only some fading to the colors, and some fraying to the edges (see detail). This comes from China and dates from c. 1900-1910.

Manufactured during the Twentieth Century in France, this pitcher is made from sheets of multi-colored pieces of clay and then shaped and fired. Requiring a great deal of love and labor, these piece of French pottery are much sought-after. The master potter of this piece, Yvan Koenig It measures 7 3/4" high, and approx. 7 1/4" handle to spout. In excellent condition.

This shagreen gaming caddy, or chip holder, holds about 130 mother of pearl gaming chips (perhaps a few are missing), and stands, to the tip of the handle, 3" high. It is 7 1/2" across and 5" wide. The condition, with the exception of some wear to the underside, is excellent. All the fad in the Art Deco era, this piece is a rare find, indeed.
