This papier mache snuff box, a bit smaller than the usual round, disc size, measures 2 3/8" in diameter. The transfer on the top, done in gold and grisaille, depicts the Virgin Mary and the infant Jesus, who hold Easter Lilies emblematic of the Resurrection, an Easter theme. It shows rubbing on the sides, but is in very good condition, over all.

This marvelous item is a viniagrette which once hung from a chatelaine which hung, itself, on a lady's waist. It still shows traces of the original gilt, although it is manufactured of a brass or bronze metal. It still contains the tiny sponge which would have been impregnated with a perfumed substance sot hat it could be held up to the nose as one passed through some sort of noxious vapors, thought to be the cause of illness, since germs were not yet understood as a major player in illness. ...click for details

This plaster mask of Herodotus, the Greek historian, dates from the late Nineteenth Century, and likely graced the wall a secondary school or college drama classroom.
It measures 14 1/2" high, 10" wide, and 7 1/2" deep. There is a steel hook embedded in the rear top for hanging. The piece was rather carelessly painted, although the effects are imposing. There are some mold marks on the forehead where the plaster mold was for the piece. In superb condition, with commensurate wear ...click for details

Measuring 46" square, this late Victorian design rug features a parrot, a spaniel, a cat and a squirrel each in a quadrant all with a surrounding ribbon border. The piece (see photos) is joined from two pieces. Condition is quite good with only a few worn or thin spots easily restored, visible only when held with a light behind it. It has no backing, which would be helpful if it were going to be used. English or American, c. 1910 -1920.
