This marvelous item is a viniagrette which once hung from a chatelaine which hung, itself, on a lady's waist. It still shows traces of the original gilt, although it is manufactured of a brass or bronze metal. It still contains the tiny sponge which would have been impregnated with a perfumed substance sot hat it could be held up to the nose as one passed through some sort of noxious vapors, thought to be the cause of illness, since germs were not yet understood as a major player in illness. ...click for details

Gold, black enamel, pearls and a lock of hair: this brooch has it all! Measuring 1 7/8" wide by 1 5/8" high, this is an excellent example of early Victorian memorial jewelry. The only apology is solder and repairs to the pin on the back.

These modernist knot cuff links are marked "Sterling" and a maker name that I cannot read. They are sterling silver with gilt over part of the knot. They are in fine condition.

This handsome and beautifully crafted 18kt gold pin, dating from the end of the 19th Century, reminds me of some of the pieces fashioned of "California gold." The grape leaves appear to have just this instant been snapped from the vine, with the grape cluster hanging rich with promise. This piece weighs 6.4 gr. The pin measures 1 1/4" wide, and 1 3/8" high. It is in superb condition.
