From the era when folks seems charmed and fascinated by jocular monks, priests, cardinals, and all characters ecclesiastical, comes this watercolor of a laughing monk reading a newspaper. The face is animated and sophisticated, and the entire depiction well conceived and executed.
Painted in France, c. 1920 and signed "Vally" in brush in the lower left, the entire work, measuring 9 1/2" x 7 5/8" in a "rope design" frame is in excellent condition.
