This tiny burl snuff box (to find the hidden opening door, turn the dog over and, voila, there it is!)measures only 2 1/4" x 1 1/4" and is a tiny bit over 1/2" high. He has plaintive, hound-dog eyes, and a nice long tail, but the breed identification will have to be left up to your imagination. The lid opens--hinge is sound--and all is in good shape. A charming find!

This animal tooth mounted on malachite, and with a malachite cap, measures 4 3/4" high at the tip, and is 8" in length. The malachite disk base on which it stands is 2" in diameter. It is about 30 years old.

Having carved half-sails, and sailing on a foamy sea, is this diorama-like replica of the sailing ship "Marion Sprague". Written in pencil on the reverse is the inscription, "Marion W. Sprague built in Boston 1889, 748 ton" and then signed, "George A. Alden, 1941". The piece measures 12 1/2" long, 9" high, and 3 1/2" deep. In good, as found condition with a fine folk art, home-made flavor.

This stunningly designed box is covered in a terraverte color snakeskin, or perhaps shagreen and has an intricate cut-out brass design of a floral trellis and a caribou. It measures 9 5/8" x 5 3/4" x 2". The condition is quite good, though the color and crispness is a bit dated. The design is a fresh as the best Deco designs.

This is one of a series of hand carvings by an Austrian artist of various medical specialties. Over the years, I have had most, if not all of them. This very teutonic looking figure measures 5 1/4" high, and about 2" at the base. The pediment bears the inscription, "GASTROENTEROLGIST The best medicine is mush".
