French Portrait Miniature on Ivory by Perrin 1870
Dressed in a lovely summer frock and an attractive bonnet, this portrait miniature painted on ivory is a beautiful, small monument to the artist, who may be the "Perrin" written on the stone pillar in the lower right. The frame, which appears to be hand-carved oak with brass studs and tiny mother of pearl inlay dots, measures 4 1/"x 3 1/4". There are two tiny rubbed spots at 11 O'Clock on the miniature, all other white areas on the periphery are reflections on the glass. Although the costume appears to be 18th Century, I believe this work was hand-painted on ivory, and the frame hand-carved in France c. 1870-perhaps significantly earlier.
