|George Schmidt (American/Louisiana, 1944-) “Estelle Degas arranging Flowers” (at the Degas family home on Esplanade Avenue, New Orleans) , charcoal drawing on paper, 14” x 15”, 16” x 20” artist paper, signed and dated (1986), lower right, framed 24” x 24”, excellent condition. A painter from New Orleans, George Schmidt is determinably anti-modern in his style of artwork and defines his style as Academic Realism. In his oil and watercolor paintings, drawings, prints and monotypes, he focuses on the "sensuous, sultry, steamy city of New Orleans" and her uniqueness such as Mardi Gras and the cultural heritage dating to the Romans. As a musician, he also celebrates the life of that city as he is a banjoist and lead singer for a group called New Leviathan Oriental Foxtrot Orchestra.|
