This exquisite musical instrument dates from 1810 - 1815, and is by the French maker, Sebastian Erard, one of the preeminent Harp makers of all times. It has an almost statuesque appearance, with its glorious look and Neoclassical details. The gilt wood column is in the style of a fluted pillar, topped with ornate high relief winged female figures and Mermen. Large Copper Ship's Lantern with original oil canister and heavy clear glass lens with green glass insert. Marked J. H. Peters & Bey, Hamburg, Germany. Although it has been used, we are unsure of the age. The lens and the insert have a series of etched numbers, most likely for identification.
