This incredible signed lithograph of a Show Horse is by the famous equestrian artist George Ford Morris. The image depicts the show horse as it returns from the arena and trots under the American Flag Banners. Morris was well known for his ability to capture the beauty and realism of many famous horses of the mid century. This piece is an original lithograph dating from 1945 and was published by the Associated American Artist, New York, NY. It is signed in pencil by the artist in the lower right corner. Most of the works published by the AAA were published in editions of 125 to 250. Sight: 11.75" x 8.75", Frame: 14.375" x 17.5" The piece is is mounted in a simple black wood frame with off white colored mat. The back contains the label indicating it came from the Collection of Robert L. Tobin, San Antonio, Texas. Mr. Tobin was a philanthropist who owned an extensive art collection. Many of his pieces had been loan to Museum and Exhibitions around the country. The Tobin Gallery in the Marion Koogler McNay Art Museum in San Antonio, Texas was named after him as well as the Robert L. B. Tobin Park. George Ford Morris was born in 1873 in St. Joseph, MO and passed away in 1960 in Arcadia, CA. Well known as an American equestrian artist, George Ford Morris worked as a painter, sculptor, illustrator and lithographer. Although self-taught, he attended classes at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1888 and later at the Academie Julien in Paris (1925). He later moved to New York City where he had his studio on Thirty Third Street. He is best known for his illustrations of horses and equestrians. His work can be seen in the New York Historical Society, the International Museum of the Horse in Lexington, Kentucky and many others. Morris was a frequent contributing artist to such publications as 'The American Horseman', 'Breeder's Gazette', 'American Field', 'National Horseman' and 'Thoroughbred of California'.
