CLEO by sculptor Floyd Shaman (American 1936-2005)
Cleo is a unique and one-of-a-kind piece by the Mississippi Delta artist Floyd Shaman. Cleo is made of various pieces of wood that are laminated and then shaped to give her her form. She is sitting in what appears to be an antique chair, with her hands permanently affixed to the arms of the chair. Her face is painted and features glass eyes and the hair is made from a decorative trim wood molding. The chair appears to be a found piece that the artist altered to incorporate in this work.

Working from his home in Cleveland Mississippi, artist Floyd Shaman was well known for his humorous yet finely crafted figural sculptures. He taught art at the Delta State University in Mississippi until 1980, when he decided to leave and become a full time sculptor. He has been described as a prominent American Sculptor in the last part of the 20th Century and his works can be found in publications and collections throughout the United States.
