Hammett's Planisphere Celestial Map, circa 1900's.
This wonderful astrological map was made for the J. L. Hammett Co. of Boston, Massachusetts and allows you to locate the stars, constellations and the Milky Way. The front reads as follows: "Hammett's Planisphere, Showing The Principal Stars Visible For Every Hour Of The Year" The piece is made of two pieces of solid cardboard with the top being finished with a faux leather look in black. The gold lettering and details are in excellent condition and are deeply stamped into the board creating an embossed effect. One of the points has separated on the front (see photo) and another is partially separated. This does not affect the use, as the map wheel easily rotates and functions very well. The map itself is in very good condition and you can easily read the calendar and the constellations. There is some staining on the reverse on the left side, but it does not affect the instructions. The lettering for the operating instructions is nice and dark and can easily be read. (see photo) SIZE: 13.25" x 12.25" point ot point. |
