A vintage mask of the Mai tribe from Middle Sepik River area in New Guinea. Nicely carved face with flaring nostrils. Conch shells are used for eyes and for the beard area while feathers and other organic materials are tied to create hair. Beautiful curvilinear designs are painted in white to decorate the face (they may perhaps be tattoos or tribal facial decorations).
