This mask is hand painted on wood, many times over painted. The current paint is more garish than the original. It had a completely different color pallet. This mask used to be part of a headdress, with possibly fur and other attachments. It has iron remnants (nails), which were used to attach hair or fur. The mask was thinly carved with glossy patina on the back. This was most likely a theater mask. It is an amazing piece for a mask collector.
Circa 1930.
