This Japanese netsuke is done in ivory with shell inlay for the back holes. It is rendered with great detail and features a lively monkey carrying a bucket. This piece dates to the Meiji period, approximately 1890. It conveys charm and fine craftsmanship alike. The monkey stands on its own and is in excellent condition. This early Meiji brushpot, circa 1890, mounted on a modern walnut base. Featuring a finely carved depiction of Japanese figures drinking sake under a beautiful cherry blossom tree, painted in gold lacquer. It is signed with a seal that reads “SOMEI” or “SOTETSU.”

This finely carved ivory okimono dates to the Meiji period, circa1900-1910. It features three figures performing a folk dance, or Hotori. Their controlled movements and full costumes suggest a festival. The scene is carved with great detail, as can be observed in the layers of dress, as well as the physical features of each figure. This okimono is of the Tokyo School and is signed by the artist Shunko.
