This unusual figure is from the Toba Batak Tibe in Sumatra, an effigy of a man. The figure is a near life-size puppet called a "Si Gale Gale", Gale translating to weakling or the unfortunate, that would have been used in funeral ceremonies. By moving a series of cords, this figure could be made to perform a "tortor" or dance, moving its arms, legs, hands nd head, sticking out it's tongue, and shutting it's eyes.
