Paul Haig and collaborator Marla Shelton have written "Threads of Gold: Antique Chinese Textiles from Ming to Ch'ing." This book is a comprehensive guide to collectible Chinese textiles. Published by Schiffer Publishing, Ltd., Threads of Gold includes an extensive number of textile examples along with an easy to follow grading system to assist in determining value. Threads of Gold is beautifully illustrated with over 500 detailed photos of ceremonial court robes, badges and decorative textiles dating from the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) to the Ch'ing Dynasty (1644-1911). It is designed for historians, Asian studies scholars and textiles collectors, from beginning to advanced, as a real-world representation of available pieces and an in-depth study. It is a must for appraisers and connoisseurs alike.

However, people often mistook embroidered suares such as this for court pieces, and it is not uncommon to find items like this framed mistakenly as rank badges of some sort!
