A fine pair of menuki featuring a leaf and pinecone each placed gracefully over pine needles. The pinecone and leaf symbolize long life. The artist Yasu Chika used the needles for balance within the motif creating a stimulating composition. This pair dates to the Late Edo Period (1840-1860). These menuki are made from copper and overlaid with accents of high karat gold. The metal working is delicate and precise. Veins in the copper leaf are overlaid with gold, and the pine cone is sculpted by chasing. There are signature plates on the back of both pieces.
Sophisticated and beautifully composed these menuki are a fantastic choice for those who are serious Japanese antique collectors. Demensions: each is approximately 2.5" in length |
