This early 19th century Bizen sculpture is of a dog sitting on a patch of grass. The slow firing in the kiln has produced a rich, reddish brown color with ash creating splashes of a green glaze to the top of the head and parts of the body. It is in very good condition except for a hairline crack on the right paw.

This early 20th century Ohi koro incense burner is shaped as a shishi or mythical lion. It has the characteristic Ohi rich amber iron glaze and has been finely crafted with wonderful stylized detailing. There is a carved signature on the base and it comes in the original signed box. Very good condition with a minor chip on a lower tooth.

This exquisitely hand carved and painted wooden sculpture depicts the Buddhist monk Kobo Daishi sitting on his lacquered throne in a meditative pose. This piece was commissioned by fellow followers wishing to perpetuate his memory. Early 1900’s. Very good condition with surface scratches and wear associated with age.

This early 1900's finely hand painted paper fan is decorated with chidori in flight over waves, a favored Japanese theme of art. Overcoming high waves and strong winds to migrate, the chidori is seen as an emblem of perseverance and the conquering of obstacles. The sticks and guards are finely grained zitan wood. Very good condition.
