| This gorgeous piece of circa 1830 jewelry has large rose cut diamonds collet set in sterling silver and it's a major sparkler! The large center diamond is a pale champagne color, set as the center of a flower. The other diamonds are white and are in settings modeled as flower buds and leaves, four of which are en tremblant. The diamonds on the leaves are set down into them and some of those are teardrop shaped. It's difficult to determine the carat weight of rose cuts, but this center stone is one of the largest rose cuts I've seen. It's about 7 mm across. All the diamonds are probably foil backed which was the practice at the time this piece was made. The entire piece is a little over 1 1/2 inches wide and 1 1/4 inches high. The back is gold. This piece was designed to be used interchangably with other pieces that would have been made for that purpose. The sides have slots where clasps for a bracelet or necklace could be inserted and locked into place (see photo). There are four later holes drilled into the gold frame of the setting so that it can be put on a chain and hung from two positions. | ||
