Very Fine/Rare Iron-Brown Decorated Jar-17th- 18th C
A Very Fine/Rare/Large Underglaze Iron-Brown Decorated Jar-17th- 18th C. Korea, Choson period, 17th - 18th Century, This jar is heavily potted and is of a grayish white glaze. The wide body gently rising from the unglazed short foot, freely painted in two sides with a floral motif, possibly grass. During the second half of the 17th century and the first half of the 18th century, the predominant patterns on jars were abstracts. The fluid lines show the sweeping scroll-like gesture of the artist’s hand in spontaneous movement. It is in very fine condition without any repair or chip at all. It measures 10 1/2” d. x 8 3/4” h. (26.6cm x 22.3cm). *** This is similar to a piece in the Seoul National Museum of Korea and a jar of similar shape, also abstractive painted in iron-brown, is illustrated in Sejau To Zebshu, vol.14, p.189, fig.52
