A Rare/Fine Red Lacquer Signed Wedding Box /Docu. Box: Japan, Meiji Period, 19th Century. with an original painted leather box. This is unusual and beautiful rectangular shape red lacquer document box for scholars, or bride’s wedding box, with three gold, silver and copper metals overlaid on the top incised with three scholar’s friends, an old branched pine tree, flowering plums and bamboo, and with incised signatures, its interiors attached with silk, it also has an original leather case painted with two cranes perching on the old pine tree scrolled by ivy and a metal lock with an incised signature, too. It is in very fine condition but slight scratches on the bottom of the box. It measures 13 1/8” x 9 7/8” x 3 3/4” lacquer box only, 14 1/4” x 10 3/4” x 3 3/4” case included.
