This is a Echigo jofu woman's kimono. Echigo is an old name for Niigata prefecture which is located in the middle of Honshu, Japan Sea side. Jofu is a fabric woven of handspun choma (ramie) threads and handwoven. It has beautiful kasuri pattern which looks very similar to Okinawan kasuri pattern. This is an asa katazome ( stencil-resist-dyeing ) futon cover. It has beautiful kiku ( chrysanthemum ) karakusa pattern. It looks handwoven and old ( ca. 1900s to 1920s ), but the cloth seems recycled and sewn by machine. In excellent condition. 120cm x 166cm 47" x 65"
This is a silk obi ( sash ) made of plain silk and black silk satin for the lining. It has traditional seigaiha ( wave ) pattern and two kinds of pictures, of which motifs are ukiyoe ( Japanese woodblock print ) which depict the scenery of Edo ( now Tokyo ). This is a double-faced sash with beautiful flower designs such as peonies, chrysanthemums, Japanese bush flowers, weeping cherries and so on. This type of obi ( sash ) is called "chuya obi ( literal meaning is day and night )" and both sides can be used.
