Japanese Vintage Textile Bashofu Kimono With Kasuri

This is a kimono made of bashofu ( banana fiber cloth ) which was made in Ryukyu Islands ( now Okinawa ). Bashofu is handwoven of fibers taken from Ryukyu basho ( one kind of banana tree ). It is said that bashofu had been commonly worn by people in Ryukyu from 15th or 16th century. Bashofu has thick and bulky texture. This kimono has kasuri ( ikat ) pattern. The former half of the 20th century. In good condition except for a few minor color faded parts. 112cm x 127.5cm
