This is a 1/2 liter Mettlach stein with ceramic inset Caduceus emblem, circa 1910-1930. The emblem is set in the top of the pewter lid. Books surround the body of the stein. The handle and trim are a cobalt blue. The bust of Hermes is on the thumb plate. Caduceus is the name given to the staff, it was used by the messengers of the gods, especially Hermes.
