| This colorful work of art is attributed to Joseph Delaney(1904-1991). The painting is oil on canvas, set in a period silver wood frame. It is an attribution because it is only signed with his initials, and his name is written on the stretcher bar. Delaney, born in Tennessee, spent most of his life in New York, the city that was his inspiration. He worked as a sketch artist at The Washington Square Outdoor Art Exhibit for over 40 years, trying to develop public awareness of his work, with no success. In 1964, he worked at the New York World's Fair sketching for the New Orleans exhibit and later for the Ghana exhibit. His work uniquely portrays his experiences as a black man and his perception of the human scene. This particular painting depicts African Americans celebrating in the streets of New Orleans, presumably the New Orleans exhibition in New York. It is in great condition; sight is 28" X 22", and 33" X 27" framed. Weight is approximately 7 lbs. *Trocadero does not allow customers to put in credit card information, because of security reasons.
