A very nice post 1940 painting on paper. The faces are quite detailed while the background is a little looser in style, which is typical of the period. There are some creases in the paper, some age spots, and a few minor "worm" tracks. All of this can be clearly seen in the photos, please study them carefully. In very good condition, it measures:

This painting is my personal favorite. This is the famous Liu Bei (161 – 223 AD), Chinese style name Xuándé, who was a powerful warlord and the founding emperor of Shu Han during the Three Kingdoms era of China. This scroll is one of the most beautifully rendered silk master pieces that I have ever encountered, rich in the detailing as even the dragons are done with great clarity of detail about the hem of his garment.
