Circa 1850, this lovely rose medallion mandarin small rice or noodle bowl and saucer is quite rare for three reasons: 1. It is eggshell porcelain. 2. The combination of both the medallion and mandarin pattern designates it to the mid 19th century. 3. The unusual foliated rim on the tea cup and twisted swirl pattern on the saucer is highly unusual. And given the highly glossy and thick enamels, rich both in color and texture, most definitely places it in the mid 19th century. Few of these thin egg shell porcelains of the medallion/mandarin palette survive, condition is excellent except for a surface glaze fissure on the backside of the saucer, otherwise perfect for the age and material. Cup size: 4.5" diameter x 2.25 high. Saucer diameter: 6". |
