Cameras & ScannersTips - For your purposes on TROCADERO, you will need only to digitally capture your images and perhaps make minor adjustments. Our interactive photo-upload feature will do the rest for you - including compression and "thumbnail" creation. In choosing a tool, factors such as image quality, picture size and scan speed are important variables to consider to assure greater product satisfaction. A camera which gives you a larger raw image will provide you with greater versatility. Resolution is a good indicator of raw image size. When choosing a scanner, thirty-plus bit technology and high resolution are good indicators that you will get good quality, fast scans. You probably will not wish to scan at higher than 72 dpi anyway for internet purposes. One exception to this is to scan at a slightly higher resolution to effectively magnify an otherwise small picture. Legal size scanners will suit you better than letter size if you are intending to present two dimensional art and do not want to invest in an oversized unit. A scanner with the capability to take slides, negatives or transparencies will give you additional flexibility but may be overkill.
Digital Cameras
At c|net computers.com you can find consumer comparisons and information on a variety of computer products. This link relates to digital cameras specifically. I have found these pages very helpful over the past year. While the information has burgeoned with the increased selection of affordable cameras recently, CNET manages to present it in reasonably succinct manner.
