Qualify Your Search

Our search bar appears on all pages in our directory. By default all of TROCADERO is selected. You may narrow the breadth of your search to include only the main category. This is helpful if you are searching for something that may be available in many periods but you are interested only in a more specific period.


Filtering Your Search

The filter works on "prior to" dates. If you are a purist period furniture and accessory enthusiast, for instance, who will only consider early 19th century objects and earlier, then you may select "pre 1837" (in appropriate directories of course) and you will be spared the distractions you can't seem to avoid on other sites.


Sorting Your Search

You may sort your search by most recently added items to ensure fresh content. If you are encountered with an overwhelming number of items and can't seem to get to the bottom of it all then you may reverse the order by selecting the least recent option. You may also sort by price. This will suit various users in different ways. One may look for a bargain or may look for the most expensive items first to access higher quality objects more quickly.


Keywords and Boolean Functions

Keyword searches are on titles and a limited number of transparent keywords entered by the dealer to keep database applications manageable and search results meaningful. Our members are informed and should be aware enough to include important keywords in their listings. You may find a hiding treasure in our directory pages if they slipped.

You may use boolean functions in our keyword window. One may search for "japanese" only to get all qualifying items, "japanese and bronze" to get only Japanese bronzes, "japanese or chinese" to get all Japanese and Chinese objects, or "japanese and not bronze" if you like Japanese art but don't particularly care for bronzes. You may use more than two terms but take care to consider your combination of logical connectors.


Search For Item #

This is the one exception to the need to include a keyword. You may search on the item number assigned by TROCADERO or on the dealer's own stock number. One number, therefore, may possibly return more than one item. Item number searches on TROCADERO are not influenced by other variables which may have been selected and forgotten about. Hope this saves some aggravation.


Controlling Display

By default, our settings return 15 items in illustrated thumbnail format. You may reset the number of items to be returned and may reset the format to return items in in text-only format (with no pictures at all).


Using The Buttons

Of course, you retrieve the results of your search by pressing the "Report" button. Also pretty obvious (to most of us), press the "Reset" button to restore the default settings and begin a new search.
