Wonderful small sized Chippendale giltwood looking glass with carved C scrolls,foliage, and motifs reflecting the chinese influence of the second half of the 18th century. Original gilding, backboards, and mirror plate. Minor repairs and restoration. Height 41", width 24".
A beautiful and quite rare cabinet on stand with great coloration and size. The greek key cornice; large oval inlays on the doors; and the herringbone banding on the draw fronts are all indicative of fine London cabinetwork of the 18th century. The interior is comprised of 48 open pigeonholes probably designed for document storage--would make an elegant wine cabinet! Original side lifting handles, other brasses replaced.
