A beautiful and quite rare cabinet on stand with great coloration and size. The greek key cornice; large oval inlays on the doors; and the herringbone banding on the draw fronts are all indicative of fine London cabinetwork of the 18th century. The interior is comprised of 48 open pigeonholes probably designed for document storage--would make an elegant wine cabinet! Original side lifting handles, other brasses replaced. A possibly rare stenciled pier table in what appears to be the original surface. Unlike most New York tables of the period this particular one has two different cornucopia's in the base. The one on the left with corn and wheat, the other with grapes and fruits. Attributed to the Meeks brothers--fine New York cabinet makers of the early 19th century in New York. Marble top is 42" x 21", case is 38" x 19", height 35". Great size and proportions!

This spectacular statement of the early Rococo Period in France, is truly a "one of a kind" object d'art. The thin, delicate, asymmetrical carving surrounding the painting and the mirror is exceptional. The painting, a "fete galante" is similar to those painted by the followers of Jean Watteau. This bed stood in the Winterthur Museum for approximately 40 years and appears in the book 'American Furniture, The Federal Period', by Charles Montgomery, catalog #2. In 1929 it appeared in the 'Loan Exhibition of Early Eighteenth and Nineteenth Century Furniture & Glass, For the Benefit of the National Girls Scouts', catalog #706. A most unusual, rare, and intriquing desk which appears to have been specifically made to fit into a particular space on a ship. The entire case (standard butler's desk) is built at an angle! Written in pencil on the interior bottom boards is the word Octorara. The USS Octorara was a gunboat built at the Brooklyn Navy Yard in 1861. SOLD 

Embroidered flag on canvas/linen mounted on an artist board with 47 stars showing and one possibly concealed in the fold of the flag. New Mexico became the 47th state on 6 Jan 1912, Arizona became the 48th state on 14 Feb 1912. The U.S. adopted a new flag (48 stars)on the 4th of July of that year as is the custom; the flag prior to this had 46 stars. There never was an official 47 star flag. Probably in its original frame and glass. Frame size is 24 1/2" x 20 1/2"
