Chest of draws in mahogany, mahogany veneers, and maple edging around the draw fronts. Secondary woods are poplar and white pine. Later finish with nice coloration. Original bracket feet, top two draws with period brasses, lower draws with similar replacements. Overall width 42 3/4", depth 22 1/2", height 34".

Beautiful watercolor by the Irish-American artist William Magrath (1838-1918). Magrath's paintings can be found in a number of museums to include the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. Image size approx 25" x 19 1/2", frame size 29 1/4" x 24 1/2". Signed lower right W. Magrath, dated 1874.

SOLD 

A very unique and beautiful chest of draws in mahogany with rosewood banding and maple/birch inlays. Secondary wood is white pine. Width 40 1/4", depth 20 1/2", height 38". Appears to retain its original brasses. The bracing of the feet underneath the chest is similiar to that of chests found in the Litchfield area of Connecticut.

Finely carved, two-piece, chest in pine. Possibly Danish. The central section of the front resembles an entrance way into a castle. Overall size is 43" wide x 24" deep, height 25 3/4". The height of the base is 8 1/2", the height of the chest without the base is 17 1/4". The lock is missing.

Oil on canvas portraits, probably English/Scottish, late 18th century with original frames and stretchers. Both with labels on the back identifying the sitter. Her name is Anne Browne, born 1763 died 1820. His name is James Duncan or Duran, born 1753 died 1809. Frame size 28 3/4" x 33 1/2". Sight size 25 1/4" x 30". Both have an old relining. Formerly the property of James Cogar, the first curator of Colonial Williamsburg.

Early Federal Period (transitional) chest of drawers in mahogany with white pine as the secondary wood. Fluted quarter columns, french splayed feet. Retaining original pierced brasses, and side lifting handles. Draw construction would indicate a Newport, Rhode Island origin. New finish. Width 39", height 38 3/4", depth 20 1/4".
