Rare Sterling Silver and Enamel Miniature Hand Mirror 4" (10cm) long. Hallmarked for Birmingham 1908 on front and rear, maker R Ltd. Inscription reads: Greetings from Illawalla 1908. Oval Enamel Cartouche of The Illawalla Country Club, Thornton, UK. Vesta Tilley laid the foundation stone in 1902. Perhaps this was named after the Australian Illawarra? Excellent condition. Kobe toys are wooden mechanical dolls. Production began after the opening of the Kobe port in Hyogo Prefecture, Japan in 1868 as a high-class expensive souvenir that only foreigners who came to Kobe with luxurious ships could afford to purchase. This lovely piece is 6" long and 4" high. The neck and arm are animated - as you push the cart the neck elongates and the arm bangs the drum.
