The Royal Doulton Shakespeare Series was in production from 1912 to 1928. There are 12 different characters, this one being Cardinal Wolsey from Henry VIII. Here is a very elegant pair of Black Basalt Plaques, possibly by Wedgwood. They are mounted on board and I have not been able to get to the back to see what markings exist, if any. The one on the left depicts a hunter carrying a pair of wild boars slung over his shoulder. On the right a hunter wrestles with a lion. Good quality, in great condition, they measure 19cm x 14cm. The Royal Doulton SURFING Series (D4645) was in production from 1926 to 1942. This 5" square plate shows a group of bathers at the waterside, probably in Sydney, NSW. This comical series signed by Bruce Bairnsfather was made as "A Souvenir of the Great War" by Grimwades (early Royal Winton). The Royal Doulton Under the Greenwood Tree Series was in production from 1914 to 1967. There are 17 different scenes, this 10 piece part coffee set shows scene 1: Robin Hood, the friend of the poor, on 4 coffee cans and Maid Marion on 4 coffee saucers. The Royal Doulton Gnomes B Series was designed by Charles Noke who was inspired by Arthur Rackham’s illustrations for Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens Ca 1906. It was in production from 1927-1950. This part set comprises 26 pieces counting teapot & lid as one piece and 6 cup & saucer sets as 6 pieces. The set is in remarkably good condition with virtually no gilding loss and very minimal crazing – flaws noted in brackets. No restoration present.
