OLD TOKONAME MOUNTAIN BOWL (Yamajawan) c.1500-1550
This is the museum-quality collectable masterpiece of genuine Old Tokoname ash-glaze yamajawan (=*trans ; mountain bowl = proto pottery bowl made during Kamakura - Muromachi period, circa 1200-1570), in unbelievably excellent condition, from Muromachi period, circa early-mid 16th century, - which was succeeded among tea masters and collectors from generation to generation even if you also understand by checking the pictures and comparing with the other similar pieces.
This whitish biscuit firing vessel is exquisitely dripped with ore-like sparkle green ash glaze, and its sense of touch is amazingly 'slimy' like the skin of present ware. The quality and the firing condition of its pure raw clay is exceptionally excellent and comfortably tight because this hitting sound check is successfully done and its sound is high and clear. Although there are various characteristic moldings like a creation of nature in the style of yamajawan even including imitated piece, this shape does not act out in order to attract attention and is just a tastefully orthodox with sophisticated distortion as a minimal art piece of expert's favor.
The total condition is excellent for the age and this type, with just e few chips at the edge and kodai (bottom stand).

Size : about 15.7 x 15.5 x H 5.4 cm (6.18 x 6.10 x 2.12 in)
