We found this beautiful futon cover in Fukuoka, Japan in our latest trip. The cover possesses a traditional pattern of Kurume-gasuri (kasuri) and its dynamic and geometric design is very attractive and stunning. The two types of “cluster” designs show a chrysanthemum-like floral motif and “I-gata”, well-crib, motif in center respectively. The placement of the patterns is somewhat irregular and it emphasizes the unique “movement” of overall impression. The backing fabric is a solid indigo kasu ...click for details

This cheerful clay doll is from Iwate prefecture of the Tohoku region, Japan. The doll is regionally named as Hanamaki, which is also the name of a city in current Iwate prefecture. Comparing to renowned Fushimi-dolls, Kyoto, sizes of Hanamaki dolls are much larger and they possess somewhat more “laid-back” atmosphere which, we believe, attribute t ...click for details

We found this lovely Korean bottle, assumed to be for serving liquor, in Kyushu, Japan in our latest trip. We were immediately attracted to the rustically beautiful appearance when we saw the piece. Irregular crackles cover the surface of the bottle to create an earthy texture while the natural ash glaze gently smooth and soften the overall impression. There is a small repair around the "mouth" of the bottle, which you can identify on the image in subtle brown color. Otherwise the bo ...click for details

This old katazome fabric depicts circles of cranes and turtles, which implies that the fabric was made for wedding celebration. The katazome fabric is made from relatively thicker hand-spun cotton (almost a vintage jeans like texture) and beautifully aged and faded. Pine, bamboo, and plum (sho-chiku-bai) also make auspicious circles, along with karakusa-grass pattern. This katazome fabric is made from 2 width unit (futa-haba) and they are stitched. The back of the katazome is slightly darke ...click for details
