A small yet well balanced form brings a sense of peace. Well used and attractive patina is shown throughout the piece. The exterior shows a simple textured pattern covered by almost ame-iro, caramel like, iron glaze. The rim of the bowl has a few "antique" chips from the heavy use as an oil bowl. Ca. Late 1800 to Early 1900s. 4" diameter x 1 3/4" h

This absolutely elegant Japanese maru obi was brought back from Kyoto. The finest yarns were used to create the most meticulous patterns of sea shells, an auspicious symbols, which is even iridescent appearance. The colors are sage-brown (khaki-ish) with some shades of browns. The condition is excellent and it is very light weight, which shows the good quality of silk. Ca. Late 1800s to Early 1900. In our last visit in Kyushu, Japan last year, we found this most delightful and charming backpack cushion which we had never seen before. The cushion pad is tightly woven by straws which is about 1.5" thick and it is covered by woven cotton threads, dyed in indigo. The pad has two shoulder belts that are beautifully made from woven straws covered by indigo-dyed cotton fabric, very time consumed process. We brought this back rare and absolutely delightful fabric from Kyushu, Japan, while the origin of the fabric was assumed to be Niigata are of Japan. Relatively larger motifs of umbrella, bamboo leave, red snapper, and sea shells (?) are all lined up horizontally and are repeatedly woven in this lovely kasuri ikat fabric. This simply elegant natu (summer) tea bowl was brought back from our visit in the Nagoya area, Japan. The tea bowl possesses a classic Shino glaze appearance, somewhat feminine and milky. One side of the bowl depicts with a grass motif, while the other side is a somewhat abstract design. The kodai (foot/bottom) shows the well used evidence over the time. Ca. late 1800s. This charming child's maekake (maedare) apron is made from an old plaid indigo kasuri fabric and a solid indigo fabric as backing. There are four ties along the edge to secure the apron for a child body. As a simple piece as it is, there is such a warm and nostalgic atmosphere that anyone can fondly relate. A very attractive and useful Japanese box from the Meiji era. The box is made from beautifully grained keyaki wood (zelkova) along with the original hardware. On the both sides of the box have handles. As you open the top, you will see a simply unrefinished interior for storage. The box is in the original condition with a charming rustic appearance. Ca. A set of six Japanese Imari rice bowls depicts precisely hand-painted floral and other auspicious motifs. The blue and white pattern is also effectively placed at the very bottom of the bowl.
