This men's obi shows beautiful geometric patterns on the both sides and the colors are so exquisite. The sophisticated brown and gray shades create very contemporary geometric square designs and stripes. The reverse side also shows a repeated yet simpler pattern. The obi is made from silk. Ca. This sakiori obi is wider width and the pattern is also simple. The mixture of red, white, and very minimum of black yarns are used and we believe that silk and other material are woven together. The obi will create a lovely holiday decoration. There is a small rip at the end of the obi (approximately 1/4") as the image shows and there are some very small stains, almost invisible, on one side; otherwise it is in excellent condition. Ca. This old katazome fabric depicts circles of cranes and turtles, which implies that the fabric was made for wedding celebration. The katazome fabric is made from relatively thicker hand-spun cotton (almost a vintage jeans like texture) and beautifully aged and faded. This charming men's sakiori obi is probably from the mid to late 1900s. The obi was hand-woven from silk (and possibly other natural yarns) and it has a rustic country touch. The width of the obi is alsmot a half of women's which is typical for men's use. There is no distinguished pattern on the obi yet the obi possesses the subtle and chic aesthetics that attribute to Japanese. This colorful vintage haori is from Taisho Era (ca 1912-1926). The entire exterior of the haori is made from authentic Japanese silk shibori fabric in rosy red, turquoise blue, and mustard brown, while the lining is another authentic silk shibori in orange and off white.
