Taisho era (1912-1926). This fine silk rinzu haori has an interesting set of patterns: some are dyed, while many others have the addition of satin-stitch, metallic and couching emboidery highlights. Very good condition. 50" from sleeve-end to sleeve-end x 37" height.

Date Mid-Showa era (1940-1960). This boy's miyamairi (Shinto christening) silk kimono features depictions of ships laden with traditional treasures. These treasures include a wish-granting mallet, a bottomless purse, a cape of invisibility, coral and a rhinocerous horn: all symbols of good fortune. Very good condition. 31" from sleeve-end to sleeve-end x 39" height.

Taisho era (1912-1926).This stunning silk haori features both an unusual design and technique. I believe that this textile was created as follows: a long white silk bolt is initially patterned with complex meisen ikat parrot patterns. Following this, the parrot-design area are tied of while the rest of the textile is patterned with shibori tie-dye pine-tree motifs. The final step would have been the cutting and piecing tgether of the jacket. It is obvious that this was a very special garment ...click for details

Early Showa era (1927-1940). This haori features a complex network of dyed patterns featuring ume blossom, tachibana and maple leaves. The silk is a "jiginu": a roughly spun silk characteristic of some of Japans rural districts. Very good condition. 50" from sleeve-end to sleeve-end x 38" height.
