Japan. 1912-1920.
" A medium weight crepe silk in a shade of bright medium blue. It is covered in bold leaves which I believe could be from water lilies. The leaves are rendered in white, creamy yellow and a seafoam green. They are additional outlines in what was probably gold but much of that is long gone but this does not make the piece any less fantastic. This silk is from the Taisho Era. It has a great hand and a fabulous drape. Very good condition. 13.5" x 60"

U.S or France. Second half 19th century (1850-1900).
A loomed textile, originally likely a runner. It depicts various scenes from the famous French Barbizon painter, Jean Francois Millet's (1814 -1875), paintings of The Angelus and The Gleaners.
A French couple praying. The Angelus and Gleaners were, perhaps, some of the most popular engravings of the 19th century.
Many such depictions graced the homes of Americans and endeared these subjects to all people, especially rural persons.
