This soft silk rinzu wedding robe has classic motifs of flying cranes, pine trees, tortoises and bamboo accomplished utilizing yuzen resist dyeing as well as sagara, satin-stitch and couching embroidery. Late Meiji or early Tasho era (1900-1920). This kimono would have been one of the earlier rayon example that were introduced to Japan in the early 20th century. At that time rayon was considered to be more valuable than silk, and thus was commisioned by some wealthier families. The design features brush-painting with some metallic-thread couching. There are five large mon (family crests). Very good condition: the sleeves have been brought up many years ago, but this can easily be reversed mere ...click for details

Mid Edo era (1800-1850). This stunning chirimen crepe-silk uchikake wedding garment was created during the Edo era, very likely for a young samurai woman. This garment features twenty-five turtles created with silver and gold couching. Some of the turtle shells are of gold,
while others are of a gold/silver mixture. This couching is unusual in that it involves not only the main outside,
but also the interior and the padded hem. The mon (family crests) are couched in gold thread. The inner ...click for details
