Sometimes I run across interesting items that aren't true antiquities per se, but that I just can't pass up! This antique sword is a good example. This fantastic sword makes a great display piece at nearly two feet in length with a flashy damascus blade. Rosettes and foilage were chiseled into the blade where it meets the hilt, which still shows evidence of a silver overlay in areas despite being worn quite smooth from handling. ...click for details

The Achaemenid Dynasty of Persia existed from 550-420 B.C. It grew in the vacuum left by Assyria's destruction of the Kingdom of Elam. Prince Teispes captured Anshan, once a stronghold of the Elamites and began to call himself "King of the City of Anshan". His father, Achaemenes (681 BC), a warrior chief, is apparently responsible for training and organizing the early Persian army and it is his name that begins the royal line of Achaemenian Kings.
