This map page comes from an atlas of the ancient world published by Ansart in Paris in 1836. The page shows two maps. The top map is an illustration of Roman Gaul during the time of Julius Caesar in the 50's B.C. The bottom map shows the same region at the end of the fourth century A.D., a time when Roman power was almost entirely eclipsed in this region. This pamphlet was written in defense of the Quaker Church as was printed in Philadelphia in the shop of Franklin & Hall. Prior to his better-known political career, Benjamin Franklin was a printer by trade. At the age of twelve he became an apprentice under his older brother, James.
