From Mori's 1992 second 52-meter-O-gama-kiln firing, this nine-sided guinomi shows a lovely 'landscape' of of reddish-brown clay tones and snow-like goma that only comes from Mori's o-gama kiln. Kanzaki Shiho is a anagama master who has created his own world of spirit and superb firings. His work is coveted the world over and recently a tri-lingual DVD was released about his life. We'll be offering a few works from recent firings and start with this glorious tsubo that has a fantastic natural ash glaze front and rich 'clay flavor' on the sides and back; a deep meditative work that is a visual mantra. Isezaki Yozan (1902-1961) was one of Bizen's greatest 20th century saikumono-sculptor potters. In Taisho 8 (1919) he entered the famous saikumono Bizen workshop of Korakuen (Kimura Chojiro) before establishing his own kiln in Showa 8 (1933). He was designated an Okayama Prefectural Intangible Cultural Property in Showa 29 (1954); other Bizen potters designated with him that year included Kaneshige Toyo and Fujiwara Kei, both were to become Living National Treasures.
